Sunday, October 4- 3 John 5-10

5Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers, even though they are strangers to you.
-Admirable quality to do good for those that you don't even know. Maybe it wouldn't be hard for a short time, but to be faithful and to continue to do something even though its hard would be hard.

6They have told the church about your love. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God.
-Good that they shared of her with others. It's nice to know that people are talking well of you. Sometimes when people do stuff with no recognition its kind of sad. Its nice to know that we can make a difference in people's lives. In general, its seems like our church isn't very good at being thankful to each other. People take others for granted all the time. sad sad sad.

7It was for the sake of the Name that they went out, receiving no help from the pagans.
-Good that people really have a strong foundation for why they do stuff. Not based on people or feelings, but for the name of Christ.

8We ought therefore to show hospitality to such men so that we may work together for the truth.
-When people work hard for the Lord we should take good care of them. They give up a lot for the good of others. In that situation its especially good to feel appreciated. People in ministry get burnt out so easily. Lots of reasons for it, but some of it has to do with how they are treated.

9I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will have nothing to do with us.

10So if I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, gossiping maliciously about us. Not satisfied with that, he refuses to welcome the brothers. He also stops those who want to do so and puts them out of the church.
-John calls someone out directly. Is very clear about what they are doing. This guy is doing bad stuff. bad bad man. very bad.

-Kinda cool reading this letter. its like looking in a window at someone elses life. many of the problems today aren't so different from what was back then. Life really doesn't change that much. The good the bad and the ugly. still the same yesterday, today, and prolly tomorrow.
