Tuesday, Sept 1- 1 John 2:12-14

12I write to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.
-Kind of a strange break out into this section. Very clear reasons for writing are included in these verses. Reminds people of their sins being forgiven. This wasn't without cost, it was thru Christ.

13I write to you, fathers,
because you have known him who is from the beginning.
I write to you, young men,
because you have overcome the evil one.
I write to you, dear children,
because you have known the Father.
-Reasons for different groups of ages. Kind of an odd list of reasons. Maybe its kind of the different stages that people go thru in life. In childhood its good just to know the father. In youth you fight much of evil and overcome it. In older age your relationship with God should be more solid

14I write to you, fathers,
because you have known him who is from the beginning.
I write to you, young men,
because you are strong,
and the word of God lives in you,
and you have overcome the evil one.
-This is a little bit more complete version of vs 13. It's kind of an encouragement for young men if nothing else. Must be encouraging to hear though that you are strong, that God is so close to us, and that we can overcome the evil one. Sometimes people in their youth may feel so defeated. God is good and faithful to see us through. Because of him we can be strong.
