Monday, September 21- 1John 5:1-5

1Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.
-Belief leads to being born again. When we love God we love Jesus as well. Belief is a simply overlooked word. What does it really mean? Belief is more than knowledge, but moves into devotedness.

2This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands.
-More "this is how we know". The proof is thru loving God and obeying his commands.

3This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,
-Again, loving God is accomplished thru obedience. A disobedient child shows rebellion against their parents. Rebellion isn't love. It shows a distrust or disrespect. God doesn't try to be overbearing in his commands. His commands are there to protect and guide.

4for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.
-Overcoming is the mark of people that believe in God. Sometimes its hard to believe this because it feels like we're failing, but God is working in us to see us thru.

5Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
-Without Jesus its impossible to overcome. He's the key to making it happen. Without Jesus nobody overcomes. With Jesus it is possible. Faith & devotion, all comes with belief.
