15Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
-This is a strong verse that says a lot more than we want to live sometimes. We fall in love and are enamored by the world far to often and we write it off far to simply. We are in a battle with life and death but we fail to realize the consequences of our actions. We hurt ourselves so often and let down our fellow soldiers. The things we do even get others killed.
-This verse as well as others in James make it very clear who's on who's side if we love the world.
16For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world.
-This is what loving the world is. These things are not from God. No matter how we try to spin it it is just evil. We need to watch these things carefully or it could mean our lives and those around us as well.
17The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.
-This is a key thing to understand in this battle. We think we can hold on to so much of this world, or that it is so big and important now. We need to remember what is for eternity and what is temporary. The temporary is so temporary. The eternal is what really matters in life.
