Monday, Sept 14- 1 John 4:1-6

1Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
-This is kind of scary cause I don't think that I think this way to often. There is a spiritual war that goes on. It's invisible so I guess I forget about it at times. But regardless we should be careful of what we believe and see. There are so many false prophets that don't just teach religion but so many ways of life.

2This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,
-Seems like an overly simple test. I don't think I ask spirits to much about this. Wonder how they answer.

3but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
-I suppose many people/religions/worldviews don't believe this or deny this. Antichrist isn't just end times, but is already around.

4You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
-This is the great comfort and reminder that we must remind ourselves of. We are God's. We have overcome. This is already said and done because of the work of Christ. The Holy spirit in us is greater than anything in the world. There's nothing to fear.

5They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them.
-The world is the world.

6We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.
-More tests to see who's who. John is full of these. We should pay attention to these in case we have a run in with a spirit or person.
