Monday, September 28- 2 John

1The elder,
To the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in the truth—and not I only, but also all who know the truth -
-A letter from John to some specific people. These people are loved because they are in the truth. They are not enemies, but friends. All who are of the truth love each other.

2because of the truth, which lives in us and will be with us forever:
-This love or family relationship comes thru the truth that is in us. This is not a temporary hope, but eternal.

3Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father's Son, will be with us in truth and love.
-Common greeting. More truth and love in this verse.

-Letters are kind of a neat literary device the Bible uses to teach something. It could've been many forms of writing, but somehow the letter is what made it for John. Letters have a purpose and reason. I love getting letters written to me.

yeah, it's pretty neat that the early Church communicated predominantly through letters. i guess it was the easiest way to spread the message and be personal at the same time.
