-In this passage Joshua is commanded by God to circumcise all the men of Israel. The reason for this was because their generation had not been. After this was done and they celebrated passover. This was the last time that they would eat the manna that God provided. It was a historic time for them because they had been eating manna for 40 years. Joshua then meets the commander of the Lords army in the desert. In asking him who he was for the commander replies neither.
-In this passage I can learn that obedience is important. Even in symbols such as circumcision for the Israelites it was important to God. It was more than just a thing to do but it represented a covenant with God. It was a big moment for the Israelites because it finally meant they were moving forward. Away from the desert. Sometimes when we get stuck in our lives it takes time to get out, but obedience is the key. The key to growth and getting out of trouble.
In meeting the commander I learned that the battles here on earth aren't always that important in the large scheme of things. Our battle isn't against flesh and blood. There's a much greater importance going on. I need to think about the greater picture sometimes and realize that my obedience is much more than the physical struggle on earth, but gives glory and victory to God in higher places.
