1Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant.

-He wants them to be aware of this topic. If we don't know anything about this then we shouldn't be in that position. We should have some education about it.
2You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.
-The past: They were influenced by bad things. Some may have been their fault others may not have been.
3Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.
-This is a test of the Spirit of God. There were probably all kinds of spirits trying to speak thru people, but they won't say certain things. This is one way we can know. This is part of spiritual gifts also. If what we do thru our spiritual gifts say things against Christ then it probably isn't part of God.
