Thursday, November 26- 1 Corinthians 7:36-40

36If anyone thinks he is acting improperly toward the virgin he is engaged to, and if she is getting along in years and he feels he ought to marry, he should do as he wants. He is not sinning. They should get married.
-I think this means that the dude is engaged but doesn't marry the virgin for a long time. He's not doing anything wrong by not marrying her right away. But if he think he should marry her, he should do it. Kind of a weird situation, but again the principle of being wholly devoted to the Lord is better stands.

37But the man who has settled the matter in his own mind, who is under no compulsion but has control over his own will, and who has made up his mind not to marry the virgin—this man also does the right thing.
-This is the opposite situation. This guy is probably a jerk if he keeps letting it hang. He should just tell her and let her go.

38So then, he who marries the virgin does right, but he who does not marry her does even better.
-Both are good things to do, but serving the Lord whole heartedly is better.

39A woman is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, but he must belong to the Lord.
-This is the kind of agreement we make in marriage. Forever. When one dies his/her obligation is broken and they can marry again. Of course the couple must be believers.

40In my judgment, she is happier if she stays as she is—and I think that I too have the Spirit of God.
-More opinion.
-This world would be a lot better if we learned to follow the Bible's advice on marriage. To little value is placed in it now-a-days. The easy come, easy go attitude isn't good. Makes our commitments weak and our attitude towards God's love for us weak as well.
