11For sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, deceived me, and through the commandment put me to death.
-language here is kind of cute now. Maybe paul was trying to be kind to those who had been confused by trying to follow the law. Again, its the same idea. Commandments lead to sin. This is confusing in a way, but it is grace that leads to righteousness.
12So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good.
-The law isn't sinful in itself. The law is accurate and perfect. Commandment is the same deal as the law. Maybe the commandment focuses more on the 10 commandments aside from all the other laws.
13Did that which is good, then, become death to me? By no means! But in order that sin might be recognized as sin, it produced death in me through what was good, so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful.
-So again, repeating the same idea. All this to be clear. The law/commandments aren't bad in themselves, but they show us what sin is. In fact, they do this with great clarity. Sin is sin, and sin is terribly bad.
-Obviously many fell into this trap of legalism being the means to righteousness. Many still fall into this. Paul repeats himself over and over to make sure people understand that its not the law that saves people, but the law that shows us what sin is and how short we've fallen. Only the grace of God saves us because nobody can keep the law except Jesus. We just need to learn to accept it and be grateful.
