Sunday, April 12- Romans 6:1-7

-Whew I'm tired. Had a long weekend and now am exhausted.

1What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?
-interesting argument based upon the relationship between sin and grace. If grace increases with the amount of sin, then some people may have thought or practiced that this was good to do then.

2By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?
-The answer to this question is of course not. We should be opposed to sinning within our current relationship with Christ. It shouldn't be something we desire to do.

3Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
-We shouldn't be living in our sinful nature because we should be baptized to Christ. This baptism makes us dead to sin. We shouldn't be desirous to be sinful if we're dead to it.

4We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
-Our lives our new in Christ. We have been born again with him thru new birth.

5If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection.
-This is our closeness with God. This is the hope of our eternal life.

6For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—
-So here's the real explanation. Sin is crucified and dead. There's no reason for us to be a slave to sin. The part of us that wants to sin should be disappearing or gone.

7because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.
-Because of this new line of thought, the dead are dead from sin.
