Genesis 2

In this passage God is finished creating all the different things in heaven and on earth. God rested on the 7th day. This day he also made holy. Even this day has it's purpose in our lives. We live our 7 days in a way and order like God did.

Following this another account of the creation of Adam and Eve is listed. God made man out of the dust of the earth. He made a garden for him in the east and made vegetation that was good for food. In addition to this the tree of knowledge was there. There were 4 rivers running thru it. It's interesting to see how descriptive this passage is. Like why do we really need to know the names of the rivers? What significance does this have? But like everything else in creation, I'm sure there's some point behind it. Something to teach us about God and who he is.

God puts man in the garden and has him work it. The Lord also gave him one command and that was to not eat from the tree of knowledge but any other tree was ok. He also gave man the work of naming all the animals of the earth. God created woman from man and brought her to him. Man was elated over this. This is the precedent for marriage and what it is. God did this because man had a need. We also have a need for God. In our sinful state it is also not good to be without God. The need for God is much greater than the need for a spouse. In the garden man had fellowship with God long before fellowship with other humans. In some ways it seems as though a spouse is a luxury. At any rate I'd propose: God first, then the other stuff.
