In this passage Jesus continues his prayer. He says a lot lot in this prayer. The world hates us because of the word in us. Jesus doesn't want us out of the world, but rather protected from it. Part of protection comes in the form of sanctification. This happens by the word which is truth. Jesus also prays for the people that will believe one day. The prayer is for unity.
From this passage I can learn that the word does interesting things in our life. For one it creates a distinct line in the sand. It makes people choose a side. These sides are enemies. The word also protects us. It makes us holy. Part of our job is to be in the world doing what Christ did. But being in the world doesn't mean being of it. We are distinct and separate. Just like a korean in america is different looking. We should really see the heart of Christ in these prayers. Loving us as his children. Desiring for us to work for his name. Unity.
