John 17:1-13

In this passage Jesus prays. He prays to God and in his prayer he desires to glorify God. He says that eternal life is knowing God. Jesus gave glory to God by doing work that he was assigned to do. Jesus then prays for his disciples and he has trained them. He gave them the word of God, saw that they believed it, and believed in Jesus. He prays for protection for the disciples because they are still in the world. Part of the protection is unity. Again, much of the prayer is for the disciples benefit so they can see that God had a plan in all the things that were going to occur.

From this passage I can learn to pray. In Christ's life he desires to glorify God with his own life. We should do similar and lay down our lives to the work God has planned for us to do. Jesus prays many things for those he was taking care of. He trained them well and is concerned about their protection. He wants unity for them. These are things we should be seeking for our brothers and sisters as well. In Jesus's prayers he loves God so much, he also loves his disciples. We should also practice the same kind of love for others.
