John 14:1-14

In this passage Jesus begins by consoling the disciples who might be a little shaken from Jesus saying that where he's going they can't come. He encourages them to trust in God. Also he encourages by telling them the reason he's leaving. Thomas doesn't quite understand so he asks about how to get there. Jesus tells him that he is the way there. Phillip steps in and asks to see the father. Jesus is a bit disappointed in Philip because he doesn't realize that Jesus is the father.

From this passage I can learn that a lot of times the disciples were as confused by life as many of us are. Jesus encourages them and deals with them patiently as he would us. It's encouraging to know that Jesus prepares a place for us even now. It's a home we should all be looking forward to. This world really isn't our home. It's kind of like college. We think of college as a stepping stone to something greater. Nothing about our residence here is permanent. We must not forget to keep looking forward to his heavenly kingdom. It's sad that Philip fails to recognize who Jesus really is even after spending so much time with Christ. I think many so called christians today suffer from the same shortcoming. We should really be thankful for the great honor of knowing the truth. It's an amazing wonderful truth.
