John 15:12-27

Jesus begins this passage with a command to love one another. Love lays down life for friends. Jesus knows who his friends are by those who obey him. Jesus makes us friends not servants. Again a reminder by Jesus to love one another. He follows this up with reality that the world will hate them. He tells them this because they hated him first and they should expect to be hated. Finally he tells them about the Holy Spirit and what he will do.

From this passage I can learn first to love my brother. This is so important to God. It is repeated here and is also the second greatest commandment. Loving God is the highest priority, but God is also very much about loving each other. With this is the second lesson that there will be persecution as we follow Christs example. This is something that we can count on and we shouldn't let it fluster us. We should just carry on as Christ did during his persecution. Finally the Holy Spirit is a big part of how we work in this world. We must follow the Holy Spirit and let him lead us.
