1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God—
-Book is written by Paul. He describes himself in 3 different ways: servant, apostle, and set apart for the gospel.
-the gospel is what he's set apart from everything else for.
2 the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures
-The gospel is prophesied. Prophecy is so important to approve things.
3 regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David,
-prophecy fulfilled by Jesus.
4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.
-resurrection was important to his appointment.
-Paul claims Jesus was brought back from the dead. Big claim.
5 Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to faith and obedience for his name's sake.
-Their and our path to grace is thru Jesus. His mission because of this is to call people to faith and obedience. It's not just faith, but obedience is important as well. Many people can have supposed faith, but obedience is the proof of it.
6 And you also are among those Gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.
-We are called to belong to Jesus. Amazing that we are gentiles and we can be that way.
7 To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be his holy people:
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
-A general greeting to the believers in Rome. A good introduction. The first thing he wants them to remember in the intro is Christs position, his position because of it, and the grace that we have.
