Luke 4:14-
In this passage Jesus is full of the Holy Spirit. In more common occurrence with those filled with the HS Jesus begins teaching. His teaching must've been amazing because word of him was spreading very quickly. He was even teaching in the synagogs. And at this time he was getting the applause of the people. People liked him a lot. At his home town he taught as he was doing. He read from Isaiah. In reading it he says some very bold things about who he was. Claiming the prophecy of Isaiah fulfilled. In speaking this the people were amazed. Jesus must've had some stage presence. So the presentation was good, but the people then questioned who he was. Jesus then saw their distrust in talking about how prophets aren't accepted in their own home. Apparently this was very true because the people were so upset over this that they wanted to kill him. I kind of wonder why Jesus had to go all the way to his home town to do that. Maybe to break their ideas so they could think clearly later? Maybe it was so his home town wouldn't be able to say he didn't tell them. He was pretty direct in declaring who he was. I wonder how many from his home ended up believing in the end? Maybe it was a message to us who turn to Christianity not to get to bent out of shape when those close to us before reject us. Friends and family often "don't get it" and turn hostile to the person. We should just stay faithful and know that Jesus was rejected by his friends and family as well. Christianity has its tough points, but those should never overwhelm us because in light of it's good points it is amazing.
