-In this passage Jesus is speaking to the church in Smyrna. The people are in poverty and affliction, but in Jesus's eyes they are rich. Probably in faith and spiritual growth. The people are talked poorly about by the Jews, but they are bad people. He warns them that suffering is coming, but to persevere thru it. Their reward for it will be the crown of life.
-From this passage I can learn to persevere. It's not easy, and there will be times of much suffering, but it is for good purpose. Keep the faith even in difficult times. The reward of eternal life is greater than anything this earth can provide.
