30"He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.
-Very clear dividing line between who is with and against Jesus.
-This makes a lot of practical sense for any organization.
31And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.
-Sounds like someone being very protective of someone close to them.
-First thing to notice is that Jesus forgiveness is amazing. Every sin can be forgiven.
-What falls under blaspheming the spirit? I'd imagine in someways that this is a very rare instance where someone would truly speak against the spirit. But maybe in someways this is what it is to deny the spirits work in your life and keep you from accepting Christ as savior.
32Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.
-It just feels like speaking against Jesus is possible because he was so controversial. The spirit is pretty quiet so to speak against him would be bad.
33"Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.
-This is an obvious statement of recognition. When we want to find out the root of something we look at its product. You can't change the product of what something is.
34You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.
-A clear declaration of how Jesus feels about the pharisees and teachers of the law.
-Nothing good can come out of an evil tree. The bad heart produces bad speech.
35The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.
-Again, very clear statement of how one can decide where they are at. Our fruit is in our words.
36But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.
-Our words are important. There is much to be said about what we say. We won't get away with foolishness. There are so many careless words in our lives that we must be careful of.
37For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned."
-Again, very clear line drawn.
-Words of repentance and trust in God will acquit us.
-We must watch our hearts and watch our mouths. This will be the indication of who we are inside. God is not fooled by eloquent/good words. He knows the truth of our heart. We need to let God continue to transform us and make our hearts good so our fruit will be good.
