-Today our Bible study was on wisdom and pleasure. It was a good thing to think about. To much pleasure can be no good and to much deprivation isn't so great either. There was a drawing in our bible study of some monk that would burn off a finger every time he had a lustful thought. He only had 2 fingers left. Obviously this technique wasn't working. Poor guy.
33Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable his judgments,
and his paths beyond tracing out!
-In talking about how people come to God and how people don't these doxology's are an interesting way to conclude things. They praise God for the unsearchableness of who he is. Just a small reminder of how wise he is in what he does. Not that we're not allowed to ask questions and wonder, but just a reminder that he must know what he's doing.
34"Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselor?"
-People often think that God could take some advice sometimes, or that we know how things should be done better. Guess it seems like God is just using his power and status to belittle us, but if anyone has the right he does.
35"Who has ever given to God,
that God should repay him?"
-Not only is his wisdom above ours, he needs nothing from us. Our goods, works, and gifts are nothing to him. In fact, they are all from him. I've heard it said that the father gives his child money to buy him a gift for his birthday or something. He's not being selfish in the act because its what the child wants to do, but the child would be a fool if they thought they did it all themselves.
36For from him and through him and to him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen.
-That covers just about every angle. He really is worthy of all glory whether we like it or not. It's unfortunate when people don't think so, but its the choice they make in their own hearts. Hopefully everyone can see it. Hopefully I can put more and more of my heart into helping people see it.
