1Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved.
-Even though the Israelites were stumbled by the law Paul's attitude wasn't happy that it was the case, but he wants them to know Christ. It's unfortunate that people get stuck on such issues.
2For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge.
-The word sincerity comes up so much in religion. Sincerity is good but it needs to be placed in the right place. Otherwise it doesn't do much good. Zeal must be based on good knowledge for it to be effective. People give to much credit to sincerity alone.
3Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness.
-Knowledge that the need is that righteousness is from God. Most religions in the world make the mistake of establishing their own righteousness. Unfortunately it doesn't work like that. If it did then Christ wouldn't have had to do what he did.
4Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
-Christ solves the problem of the law. Christ is the answer. He is our righteousness. When we start thinking we can manufacture righteousness out of the things we do then we walk a dangerous line. Just have faith in Him. Let the things we do be a result of the righteousness we have received by faith...not to gain it.
