In this passage an angel calls Gideon. The angel basically sends Gideon to take on the midianites. Gideon is unsure because he is from the least of the least. The angel shows proof of his authority to send Gideon and he realizes that it is God talking. Gideon basically accepts his mission at this point and builds an alter to commemorate his meeting.
-We often times end up in the same situation of doubt or unsureness of our calling from God. God generally makes it pretty clear. He speaks clearly to Gideon as he does to us. We need to learn to obey just as Gideon does. Gideon gets miraculous proof. Sometimes God will provide that for us if we ask, but we also have the proof of his word. God has great plans for us to take down mighty enemies as well, but he have to obey. What a different world this would be if all the christians obeyed.
