-This passage is the end of Joshua's life. An angel speaks to Israel. He gives them a hard message. God offered wonderful things, but the Israelites were disobedient to God's commands so because of that they will have trouble. The generation of Joshua passed without much issue, but because Israel failed to drive out the enemies the next generation did much evil.
-Obedience is such a wonderful thing in hindsight. God always wants to do good for us, but our own stubbornness gets us into trouble. We should just obey and see the good result. Just because we don't see punishment in our time or right away doesn't mean its not coming. All their children suffer greatly because of their sin. Nobody gets away with sin. We need to realize this.
