Thur, Dec 11 - Matthew 14:13-21

13When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns.
-Even Jesus needed time alone when his friend died. Death was not just a small thing for him. To think that they went to heaven and everything is fine was not Jesus' mentality in this situation.
-Who knows why the people followed. Seems as though it was for personal need since they were looking to get their sick healed. But maybe it was to console Jesus as well.

14When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
-Even though Jesus was going thru morning he still had compassion and helped the crowd.
-Must've been tough for him to work like that.

15
As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food."
-Disciples thinking logically. Jesus was morning, there was no where for the people to eat, it makes sense to make this suggestion.

16Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat."
-Jesus makes an impossible request

17"We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish," they answered.
-Only isn't "only" when Jesus is involved.

18
"Bring them here to me," he said. 19And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. 20They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.
-This was a miracle of a scale and magnitude that would have been impossible for the disciples to have conceived.
-When you give Jesus everything you have he can make it more.
-Do not think you don't have enough just because it's not a lot. Jesus can do whatever he wants as long as you give him all you have.
-Learn to give your talents, time, and skills just as this bread and fish.
