Friday, Dec 12- Matthew 14:22-36

22Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd.
-Crowd was fed now Jesus dismisses them.

23After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone,
-Still looking for time alone Jesus finally finds it and spends it by himself praying.
-Sometimes it's good to get away from everything and just spend time with God.

24but the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
-Sets up scene. There is distance between the disciples and Jesus. The water is rough

25
During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.
-Jesus makes an odd decision in how to catch up with them. He walks out to them on the water.

26
When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear.
-This was an appropriate reaction to Jesus considering the circumstances.

27
But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid."
-Within a fearful situation Jesus proclaims courage and peace.

28
"Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water."
-Interesting request by peter. Maybe he's one who must experience it to believe it.

29
"Come," he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.
-Jesus accepts his requests so peter begins to walk to Jesus.
-One of the most amazing experiences by man.

30But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"
-Peter loses faith when he looks at he circumstances around him. He cries out the right thing...or at least in the right direction of faith, but He should of just had faith in Jesus who allowed him to be there in the first place.

31
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?"
-Good question. Why doubt when you asked to be in this position. When Jesus was right there.
-Maybe it's like learning to snowboard. you know you can turn...but fear and doubt make you give up even though that's the worst possible thing to do.

32And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down.
-Jesus showing ultimate authority over the waters. He provided that situation so Peter could grow.
-Tough times happen in life. God is always in control

33
Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God."
-Control of the storms bring worship to God. When we realize that God is in control of all circumstances in our lives we'll praise him also.

34
When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret. 35And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding country. People brought all their sick to him 36and begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched him were healed.
-Jesus had quite the reputation. Even after traveling so far many still have heard of him and what he could do.
-Busy guy.
