7Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard.
-letter is a reminder of old news. Guess the command might be sorta out of use so it sounds kind of new.
8Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.
-I suppose that Jesus makes this command newer because it is all in context of him. All the fuzziness of what the law meant is now being made clear because of Jesus. He's the reason behind all the laws and makes things clearer.
