Wednesday, January 21-Matthew 7:24-29

Ok, so every time i get a passage from the NIV bible website this dude is up in the corner and he really freaks me out. What's he listening to???!!




24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
-I think this world doesn't value wisdom enough. A truly wise person has a rich life that can't be attained with money, fame, or power. Wisdom leads to so many good things in life, but it comes in second, third, and fourth place to so many other things. It's unfortunate that it is this way.
-Step one is hearing. Step two is practice. one, two, one, two, one, two...
-Wisdom=strong foundation.

25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
-This is the power of wisdom in life. It leads to great strength. All these storms can come yet the house built on the rock stands firm. The people inside don't need to fear.

26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
-Use of opposite to strengthen the argument to be wise. If we're not wise we're a fool. The sand is not a safe place. The sand is easy. Easy to dig, easy to live on, but has no strength.

27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."
-Destruction is the result of the life lived on sand. They might be able to get away with it for a long time, but eventually that storm will come.

28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
-Amazed. They were in awe.
-Authority permeated his teaching. It also needs to do the same in ours. Jesus can speak with authority cause he has it. He gives the same to us and we need to live as such.
