25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?
-seems like a bit of a twist from the other topics he talks about. But I suppose this is important to Jesus.
-Worry was a common problem then and still is today.
-Food and clothes do seem like essential human problems, depending on the weather of course.
26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
-This is why Jesus can say the above. Even though food is an essential of life, everything else in the world eventually gets fed. They need to work for it to a certain extent, but they get fed by nature. We will also be taken care of by our heavenly father.
-Main point is food, but I can't help but think this would include other appetites as well.
27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
-The reality of worrying brought out be a single question.
28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.
-The same logic goes for clothes. God takes care of them in nature. In some sense there's a lot of work that goes into it by the plant to make it happen, but it is still taken care of.
29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
-Even the richest and the wisest were not as beautiful as these flowers that don't worry about these things at all.
-Big lesson to learn and faith we must have. Have the faith of a flower.
30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
-Again, God takes care of these little things, won't he take care of us?
-Worry is a factor of faith. If we had more faith we'd worry less.
31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'
-Command not to do this. Even though they are real problems, we need to have faith in God that these will be taken care of.
32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
-This is a marked difference between pagans and Christians. They put much effort into worry, we shouldn't need to.
33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
-This is our call as Christians. Kingdom mindedness and righteousness is our concern. Our very high priorities in life.
-His kingdom on our minds keeps us focused in life.
-His righteousness keeps us pure.
34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
-And here's the common sense or wisdom of the day.
-Worry=needless thought or stress; overly active concern because of a certain situation.
-We need to watch out for this.
