1 May the LORD answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.
-Well wishes for help in times of trouble for people. Calls upon God to help. In distress David looks to God to help people.
2 May he send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion.
==Zion= Jeruselem/Heaven.
-If it's speaking of earthly Zion then maybe help comes from people of the church. If it's heavenly Zion then perhaps the help comes from angels. Probably both
3 May he remember all your sacrifices and accept your burnt offerings.
Selah
-As with anyone looking for mercy you'd want the mercy giver to remember the good you've done.
4 May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.
-Thought seems to shift from someone in trouble/need to wishes of blessing. This "well wish" is quite the blessing to ask for someone.
5 We will shout for joy when you are victorious and will lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the LORD grant all your requests.
-David celebrates with this other persons victories. The celebration goes towards God's glory. In view of God receiving glory for the victory he again asks that God would grant his requests. This is a good way to keep the granting of our requests in mind...as we think of God's glory. Then our desires will probably be good.
6 Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed; he answers him from his holy heaven with the saving power of his right hand.
-David is confident in the fact that the Lord saves those that are his. This isn't a guess but confidence coming from experience. He saves with his right hand, the symbol of power or authority. The answer we get is from on high...the very source of power in the universe.
+Amazing that we have this type of access to God who responds to our needs so powerfully.
7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God
-Again pointing to God for victory. The world hopes in the powerful things of this world, we hope in the power of the universe.
-Trust is in the name of God. I need to learn to trust in the name of God more firmly and understand what that means.
==name= what you call someone; representative of the power a person has.
8 They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.
-"they" that trust in horses/chariots fall. "we" trust in God so we can rise up no matter our situation.
9 O LORD, save the king! Answer us when we call!
-More pleading with God to hear our cry. Shows a firmness in how he asks God for help.
